Supporting NHS Charities Together
The vibrant spectrum of the rainbow inspired the optimistic ombré design of our Limited Edition Rainbow Scarf. This mood-boosting accessory is made with the softest Cashmere fibres, and for every Rainbow Scarf sold, we will donate £100 to NHS Charities Together, supporting the NHS, its employees, volunteers and patients in the UK.
The Story Behind Our SS20 Colours
Our designers and dye house team work together to create the perfect tones for our products, a meticulous process that results in a delicate balance of light, dark and vibrant hues throughout all our departments. A good deal of thought goes into naming the dyes too, and this season's Cubist-inspired pieces, in Cashmere and Merino Wool, tell their own colour story.
Sophisticated tailoring commands attention in our Spring Summer 20 collection, with smart, metropolitan styles for men and sculpted looks for women. Our City Sophisticates collection teams day-into-night pieces with lightweight layering items in Extra Fine Merino Wool, for confident, refined dressing. Striking abstract designs and unique, hand-painted patterns feature in the finest fibres, including the softest Cashmere and sumptuous Silk.
London Fashion Week, February 2020
Inspired by landscapes from around the globe, South American skylines and ice-capped Mongolian mountains, our Autumn Winter 20/21 collection brought cascades of colour to the catwalk at London Fashion Week this month. Our creative team looked back to go forward, exploring the origins of our fibres, reimagining long-established weaving techniques and reviving traditional fair isle jacquard prints, to bring together these unique and striking designs.
Our Work On Cashmere Sustainability
Johnstons of Elgin is one of three founding members of the Sustainable Fibre Alliance (SFA), a non-profit international organisation, formed in 2015 to work with the extended cashmere supply chain, from herders to retailers. With a focus on restoring grasslands, ensuring the well-being of animals, and securing herders’ livelihoods, the SFA funds specific programmes in Mongolia to train communities and promote sustainability. Our Chief Executive sits on the SFA board and is an active participant in many SFA initiatives.
First Seen At London Fashion Week
First seen at London Fashion Week, Johnstons of Elgin's Autumn Winter 19 collection takes traditional designs in a new direction, featuring our softest fabrics in new weights and colours. Inspired by the heyday of travel, when plane, steamship and motorcars offered new opportunities for adventure, double-faced matte cashmere, lightweight merino wool and intarsia knits are integral to the luxury collection.
Heritage, Expertise and Quality in Every Thread
Across three centuries Johnstons of Elgin has been sourcing the best in fibres, fabrics, technology and craftspeople, combining our heritage and expertise in every thread throughout our product range. As the only remaining vertical mill in Scotland, we take great care to ensure that, when we do work with fellow artisans around the world, our techniques, skills and attention to detail are closely aligned.
