Johnstons of Elgin London Fashion Week February 2021

Johnstons of Elgin take us on a sensory journey back to their textile roots this season, with the launch of ‘Tartans, Textures and Twists’. Their comprehensive lifestyle collection, including knitwear, accessories and clothing, exemplifies their expertise in the finest Cashmere and Merino Wool fibres, while their urban loungewear edit understands the recent shift in our sartorial needs.

Creative Director Alan Scott explained, ‘In Tartans, Textures and Twists, eclectic tartans and strong colour statements come together, using inspiration from our archives but also pulling in really saturated colours to give a strong, modern take on original designs. Beautiful emerald and Bordeaux shades give a strong, warm flavour to the whole collection.’

The delicate touch of Johnstons’ skilled craftspeople creates the sensual feel of the fabric for the wearer. Their watchful eyes on every detail mean nothing is taken for granted. Fluidity, shape, drape and layering are key, with nothing overdone – clean lines allow the products to speak for themselves.

In women’s, bold, eclectic looks catch the eye, including exploded tartans and iconic ombre patterns. Designs previously seen in knitwear cross into tailoring, where movement, drape and fluidity are key. Chic neutral separates are elegant and timeless, styled together for a polished, tonal look. Woven accessories feature pixelated designs, saturated colour options and debut the stunning Johnstons of Elgin House Check – a combination of the brand’s signature colours, from rich navy and camel to soft air force blue, brought together in a contemporary tartan.

‘Tartans, Textures and Twists’ reflects Johnstons of Elgin’s slow luxury values, combining state of the art equipment with investment in their skilled workforce. Understanding the importance of quality in modern living and the need to celebrate UK manufacturing is part of the brand’s success, showcased by a collection that explores the significance of the senses in everything they do.
