CEO SIMON COTTON NAMED ONE OF THE MOST INFLUENTIAL PEOPLE IN BRITISH LUXURY
We are proud to announce that Johnstons of Elgin’s CEO Simon Cotton has been named as one of the most influential people in British luxury. The Walpole Power List celebrates the inspirational individuals who have continued to steer the luxury sector to success throughout 2020, despite enormous challenges.
Simon was recognised in the ‘Heroes’ category alongside brands such as Manolo Blahnik, The Berkeley and Turnbull & Asser. This category celebrates the individuals who reached out to their community and supported frontline workers, the NHS, or the national effort during the early stages of the pandemic.
Earlier this year, we produced small batches of scrubs at our Elgin mill for local hospital and primary care centres and designed a Limited-Edition Rainbow Scarf to help the fight against coronavirus. A limited run of 350 Rainbow Scarves were released, with £100 from each sale donated to NHS Charities Together - a federation of around 250 charitable organisations that support the NHS, its employees, volunteers, and patients in the UK.
Simon stressed that the award is testament to the commitment of our highly skilled workforce. ‘Despite the enormous challenges posed by the pandemic, we felt it was vital to support not only our community, but the nation’s response to the pandemic. Although the Walpole awards celebrate individuals, the real work is done by the heroes behind the scenes,’ he said.
‘We’re extremely proud of our highly skilled and talented workforce at Johnstons of Elgin who worked tirelessly to manufacture NHS scrubs for frontline staff and those that designed the beautiful limited-edition Rainbow scarf during increasingly uncertain times.’

Simon added, ‘It’s an honour to be recognised amongst the other incredible industry representatives. Walpole represents the very best in British luxury and I am thrilled to be included in its second annual Power List. I’d like to take this opportunity to extend a very warm thank you to our fellow Walpole members for this recognition.’
Walpole CEO Helen Brocklebank said, ‘What does luxury mean in a time of necessity? Throughout this extraordinary year, that question has been answered many times over as British luxury has responded with courage, creativity and fortitude to the immense challenges of the pandemic. Sometimes it takes a crisis to show you what you’re made of, and the 2020 Walpole Power List is here to shine a light on fifty individuals who exemplify the exceptional calibre of those working in British luxury. There are testing times ahead, but with such talent to drive it forward, there is no doubt at all the sector will emerge stronger and fitter than ever before.’
